The Grandmoulin belongs to Robert Herder’s line „Unikate aus Tradition“, which comprises a small assortment of knives with a special history, shape and traditional craftsmanship. Grandmoulin means „big mill“ and indeed, with its total length of 370 mm it is a really big Windmill knife. Elegance, high functionality and first class materials, combined in traditional skills and crafts are the most outstanding features of this bread knife. „Boscher“ is the name of the blade’s shape. It comes from the Dutch word „bos“ meaning bush or bush land. And exactly here, at the sugarcane fields of the Dutch colonies, it was created as a harvesting knife, but of course much bigger than ours. The extraordinary wide blade benefits a very straight cutting line, even if you cut extremely thin slices. The bent curve of the cutting edge corresponds to the continuing natural movement of the hand while cutting. This is the reason for the very comfortable handling. The knife has 8 mm wide, thinly ground and hand polished teeth of serration. This technique is called „Langersche Welle“, one of the best serrations giving a very long lasting cutting ability without becoming dull. A further distinguished advantage of the high cutting ability is reasoned by the special polishing. This makes it equally suitable for soft and hard-crusted bread.
